Socially Engineered Malware protection Ratings.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

After reading a report from NSS Labs about browser’s security against these Socially Engineered Malware attacks, you’d be surprised at who is on top of preventing these sorts of attacks.  The big winner is…… IE8, that’s right Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 blocked the most Socially Engineered Malware attacks.  Malware programmer’s are using these sorts of attacks more frequently b/c of the ease of which people are able to get the Malware infections.  In the article it states, “Criminals are taking advantage of the implied trust relationship inherent in social networking sites…”.  They ran tests on 6 different browser types and these are the rankings from best to worse: IE8, Firefox 3, Safari 4, Chrome 2, and Opera 10.  So next time you think about going out to Tweet or update your Facebook status think twice about what browser you are going to use and only click things you trust.
